In its home market in the UK, Mini will be streamlining its model line with the introduction of three new trim levels. This will consists of Classic, Sport and Exclusive, each with their own unique set of equipment. Pricing is also being revised with a three door Classis starting at just £16,190. I'm happy that even till this day they haven't cheaper out so much that we start to see features pulled from a BMW parts bin. A lot of brands have been guilty of that, Lexus and Toyota being a classic example.

This seems to me like a marketing play more than anything else. Nowadays people want options and this revision offers a whole lot of different packages. It's really just so they can charge more money for less standard kit.

There's thousands of dollars in options here, so these new trim levels aren't really of any greater value. They should have at least placed more standard kit on the higher end trims.

The higher spec of Mini's that we get as result is a major per to me because without that they would be falling behind and end up like Pontiac.

Simplifying is a bit of a stretch I agree, as Mini is basically charging you extra to get a properly equipped car. In basic One Class trim with allow wheels and a navigation package, you're already looking at £18,000 ($23,560 U.S)

It was a bit optimistic to think that BMW would all of the sudden be decreasing pricing across the Mini lineup. If their new PHEV Countryman is any indication of the hike we're going to see with electrification, be prepared to pay a premium.

this is the great thing about competition because prior to this it was just Mini and some more entry-level brands, meanwhile other ideal rivals were mostly in Europe.

I'm hoping that once Mini see's how low interest is in the new Countryman PHEV, that they come to the conclusion that they need to find a way to reduce costs. BMW already has large stable of plug in hybrid models, so its not like they've had to design this system from scratch.

slowly Mini is losing the appeal they once had because Mini's vehicles are primarily tailored to the European market with little adjustment to markets its in like the U.S.
at some point they might need to revamp the brand and/or get rid of it all together.

They've lost what used to be their main identifier and that's their compact size, mostly due to the changes we've seen in the industry. There isn't a whole lot of interest in compact cars in NA, so unfortunately that's brought about these larger Countryman models.

China and even India, along with other developing parts of Asia might see growing interest from Mini. However I won't mind a sporty but retro version of the BMW X2.
