Hey everyone. New to the forum, and really interested in the new electric Mini. It was always a brand of car that I wanted to buy, but I was always advised against it due to reliability concerns. I'm hoping this new platform eliminates those issues and will allow me to finally get behind the wheel of one.

Not sure about reliability, but at least maintenance costs should go down because there's no longer a need for oil changes, oil filters, and other parts associated with gas cars. Most of then time it's just checking your brakes and other small things.

Thank you! And yeah I'm definitely looking forward to the cheaper running costs of electric cars, but they really need to bring down the entry level prices. I know there are some countries that offer pretty good tax incentives and rebates, but I've been seeing those slowly disappearing.

Welcome to the forum. Most of the reliability issues there were plaguing Mini's, where in models that are several years old now and to my knowledge the current models have been well improved. Mini still has a ways to go in making a more affordable vehicle however, because imo they are too pricey for what they offer.

You might be able to have more confidence in it this time around because there's growing demand for fleet vehicles from this segment, meaning, there's more pressure on Mini and BMW to produce higher quality products.

One good thing about brands coming out with a new model for the first time, in this case the Mini EV, the factory warranty for those models should be better than what they usually offer.

I believe as of now that Mini's come with a 4 year or 80,000 km factory warranty. Not sure if that's bumper to bumper and I know its only 2 years for OEM parts and accessories..not that great when you look at competitors.

You can always get extended warranty which is well worth it if you like the product. Some people are the type that hold onto a product for up to 8-10 years before moving on. I have done that with Hondas and gotten the extended warranty, it sure saves you on those high mileage repairs.

I think extended warranties are going to be a hard sell on electrics, when there are so many competitors offering better packages. At least there will be less to worry about in terms of repairs, with an electric powertrain.

The main thing it will come down to is value and as long as car makers are factoring that in there won't be a problem. they will have to because almost all extended warranties make sense when you break down the price of not having them.

I have a feeling that people will be holding onto electrics a lot longer then they have traditionally kept ICE's. For that reason alone I don't think we will see any decrease in the amount of extended warranties available. People will want to protect their investment, especially with the relatively high entry price on EV's.
