Is there any way to limit charging to 80%? I understand that because of the battery buffer you only charge to 88% even when the display says 100%. Additionally, is there anyway to charge to a true 100% capacity? In theory that would offer an additional 12% range or approximately 128 miles of range.

Hi,
I use the MINI app to control the charge at 80% capacity When charging on overnight cheap rate.
If I am planning a longer journey I adjust to 100% within the app, this is around 6-8 times a year.
With regards to your question around wanting to charge to a true 100%, the buffer is there to protect the battery pack for longevity so I would trust BMW’s design and tech advice and leave well alone.

The F56 SE does not have a feature to set a charge limit. You'll either need a "smart" charger that can be programmed to turn off at the right time/state of charge or set up a charge window (in the car or in the app) where you unplug and leave before it reaches 100%.

The new SEs (U25 Countryman, J01 Cooper, and J03 Aceman) have a charge limit feature that can be set in the car or in the app.

Hi,
My wife has just changed her 2021 F56 SE and the app allowed her to choose the charge limit, she regularly chose between 80% and 100%. UK car so I wonder if we have this option and the USA does not?

Yes, thanks, that’s what I’ve always understood. When I set up a charging schedule to take advantage of off Peak utility rates it says ”Charge to 100%”, which makes me think you would be able to change, but no.

I found a "hack" that allows me to limit the charge based on the clock time set in the car. I did not have the auto update for the clock set on the car, so when the clocks changed the time was an hour earlier than the current time. On the next occasion that I charged, the charge level only achieved around 90%, and the App provided various messages indicating that it was unable to reach the targeted level. I experimented with two hours earlier and got something less than 80%. I have a Zapec charger. I regularly reset my clock to achieve around 90% in order to protect the battery in line with general recommendations.
