Just joined up to the forum and wanted to say hello. I owned a 2009 convertible, which I loved until issues started to arise. I ended up selling it because it was just too expensive to maintain. As soon as I heard there would be an electric variant, I knew that this could be the model to bring me back to the brand. Thanks for having me!
A friend of mine when through their own fair share of issues, mainly with the transmission which was garbage in some of those early Mini's.
Unfortunately it wasn't worth the service/repair cost.
Its a shame because I feel like the brand would be seeing incredible sales numbers, if they could just eliminate some of these issues. I know all cars require maintenance, but no one wants to be dropping thousands into a brand new car. I had a friend who had to do an engine replacement at 50,000km.
Good luck expecting that, BMW already started offering cheaper models years ago and are projected to offer even more.
A 2-Series Sedan can really shake things up but already BMW's current compacts serves that would be crowd quite well
Welcome to the forum! And Mini's transition to an electric model was incredibly smart, as that could also move them away from being a niche product and essentially eliminate reliability concerns. An engine swap at that mileage isn't indicative of the whole brand, but still ridiculous.
Mini has never really been a premium brand imo, despite BMW continuously trying to market it as one. Luckily for them there has always been interest in niche vehicles, but when it comes to EV's there wont be as much room for experimentation.
Premium EV's are going to all be about the cabin and tech. Luckily for Mini they've have always had unique gauge clusters and screens, and I'm sure they plan on continuing with their circular designs.
Down the road as more car makers go for modern futuristic designs, Mini will be one of the few that have a retro vibe going on, apparently younger demographics dig that more.
